FIRE! FIRE!

There was a fire at our apartment complex Sunday night. Dan had just left to go to a youth fireside (he’s the Priest Adviser in the ward) and I was talking to my Mom. I started hearing sirens, but thought nothing of it because to the back of us is the highway and we often hear sirens. Then I went to close the blinds because it had gotten dark. I smelt smoke, but also thought maybe someone had built a fire however silly that would be on a warm night. But after hearing a LOT of sirens I knew something was up. I walked out onto the balcony and saw this:
Holy moly! I thought. There are 2 fire trucks in our parking lot! It turns out there were not 2, but 10 fire trucks parked around the apartment on fire. Yep, that’s right. Since our complex is at the end of the road, there was no way in or out. Fire hazard you say? Imagine that. Hopefully that will be fixed. The apartment on fire was at the end of the building just next to us. They had to evacuate everyone from the building, and most were able to go back in the morning.
In these kinds of situations I try and think what I would do if it happened to me. What would be the one possession I would grab while running out the door? I’d have to say it would be our lap top. Not because it’s the most expensive thing we own, but because of all the pictures we put on it. We’ve recently been backing it all up on DVD’s, but I think I would be heart broken if all the documents of our memories were whipped out. What would you grab?

Now there is a huge tarp over the roof and repair is taking place. We’ll see how long it takes to fix it. Yikes!
