Teething?

I've been thinking Soren has been teething for some time now, but today was the clincher. He has a constant runny nose, is a super drool machine, goes for a bite at anything that gets close enough, and is extremely fussy. He also is wanting to eat twice as often and sleep twice as much as usual, and that is opposite what the doctors say usually happen. Some doctors say that a runny nose is not a connected symptom to the teething. I have a question for all mothers out there: did any of your children get a runny nose or fever while teething? Also, about how long was it from when the symptoms came did the tooth break through?

Runny nose? Yes. Fever? Sometimes. Fussy, tired baby? Definitely yes! The additional eating is because he knows he doesn't feel good and feeding usually fixes that, right? The additional sleeping is because when you don't feel good, you want to sleep.

I would recommend getting some baby Oragel. That has always helped my kids. Maybe give him something cold to chew on, like put a damp washcloth or a plastic baby spoon in the freezer for a few minutes. Most of all just give him some love. Call me if you need any more "sisterly" advice.

Hazel usually gets a small fever a day or two before a tooth breaks through. She'll usually feel clammy to the touch, especially at night. I just give her a bit of childrens Tylenol to help with the fever and her fussiness. Also, you can get that numbing Baby Orajel stuff, which is great. It doesn't last too long because he'll probably lick it off, but it at least gives them (and you!) relief for a little while. I would sometimes give that to her if I noticed she was having trouble sucking on her bottle because of the pain. After the first couple teeth, though, they usually get used to it and aren't as fussy for the rest. Good luck with everything!
