I found a great 4-in-1 bed on Craigslist for Soren. (Got it for $25, WAY awesome!) He needed a toddler bed, and we got a crib from a friend last year that we were going to use for Lily once she outgrew the bassinet. They are both using them now. Soren loves a bed of his very own, although he hasn't been using it every night for the past few weeks because it's so stinkin hot. He'd rather sleep downstairs where it's cooler. I think he likes having a room companion.
He occasionally asks for different stuffed friends to sleep in his bed. But he'll usually stick one of them in there to sleep during the day.
Lily switched over just fine. Absolutely no change in her sleeping through the night and I'm able to hear her just fine when she wakes up in the morning. 
She sure likes having something to look at.
